Brief Introduction

Department of Mathematics and Information Education(B.S. , M.Ed.)

Founded in 2008, the Department of Digital Technology Design (the Master Program in Toy and Game Design) in NTUE comprised two divisions, the Department of Digital Content Design established in 2006 and the Graduate School of Toy and Game Design established in 2003. In order to cultivate elites corresponding to the industry most swiftly and efficiently, the department effectively integrates the interdisciplinary resource of NTUE. Basis on integrating humanity and technology, the department aims to cultivate creative talents and professionals for digital technology design and entertainment industry. Our courses and researches comprise of various territories. Examples of this include multimedia design, e-Pet, creativities, computer game design, portable devices, smart robots, information and network, and interactive arts design. Our approach is to merge with both aesthetics and technology. Students are able to obtain various professional trainings from computer technology, multimedia, product and art design, together with digital technology applications, digital entertainment design and information technology. Many of our courses consist of projects, competitions and opportunities that encourage engagement with other groups or organizations within or outside university. Studying at this department, students may fit the need of industry and furthermore establish a good foundation for working and research in the future.

Department of Science Education (B.S., M.Ed., M.S., Ph.D.)

The history of the Department of Science Education dates back to 1998. The undergraduate program aims to provide rigorous education in the areas of science and science education. From the second year of the undergraduate program, students can choose biology, chemistry, physics, or comprehensive natural science program as their major. After graduation, the students are entitled to a science bachelor degree.
The graduate program is divided into “Applied Science Division” and “Science Education Division.” The former focuses on the areas of natural science and aims to cultivate the students’ talents in science domain. The Science Education Division develop students their ability in professional teaching and supervision. The In-Service Master Program starts in 1999 for professional science specialists and elementary teachers to purse the further education and to elevate their competitiveness.
In 2007, the Ph.D. program was initiated. The program focuses on the science education area and aims to provide academic science education workers to develop research skills.
There are thirteen faculty members in the Department of Science Education, including seven professors, five associate professors, and one assistant professor. The Department Office also has two administrative staff. Further, the Department has several laboratories for all scientific fields and one observatory.

Department of Physical Education (B.S., M.S.)

Our course design covers both theory and practical application. With diversified courses and industry-university cooperation model, our Department strengthens students’ knowledge and skills. In the required courses, we enrich our students with the knowledge of humanity and technology and form students’ sensitivity and analytical skills in response to the current trend. Our Department provides a bachelor degree program in Physical Education, a Master degree program in Physical Education, and a Master degree program specifically for in-service teachers. The main goal of the bachelor degree program in PE is to prepare students to become specialists such as preeminent instructors in physical education for elementary schools, administrators of physical education, practitioners in community sports, and trainers in physical related professions. The master degree program in PE aims to develop excellent PE instructors, fitness trainers, administrators of physical education, trainers in physical related professions, and researchers on sports science. The master degree program in PE for in-service teachers aims to enhance the knowledge of Physical Education in elementary school level and research ability.
The faculty for our Department consists of 14 full-time teachers whose research fields range from sport humanities to exercise and sport science. The facility resources include a gymnasium (including the composite courts, dancing classrooms, aerobic classrooms, table tennis rooms, and weight-training rooms), running tracks, tennis courts, swimming pool, basketball courts, volleyball courts and experimental laboratories for other fields.

Department of Computer Science(B.S., M.S.)

The Master Program originated from the Graduate School of Computer Science established in 2004. Our main educational goal is to cultivate the high-tech computer science talent. The Department of Computer Science was established in 2005 and merged with the Graduate School of Computer Science. The Graduate School of Computer Science begins to enroll Executive Master students in 2008. The program framework is mainly divided into three directions, i.e., “Networks and Communication,” “Computer Systems,” and “Intelligent Technology,” which include multiple domains such as multimedia, computer network, educational science and technology, database management, network and computer security, software engineering and etc. The Master Program is not limited for students graduated from the information-related departments. Every applicant with the diploma in Taiwan or from abroad approved by the Ministry of Education, or with other conforming credentials is welcome for the entrance examination. The course structure for the Master Program is divided into “Networks and Communication,” “Computer Systems” and “Intelligent Technology.”
Our Department students are cultivated to possess of computer science theory and innovative designing capacity. Moreover, they should know how to discover, analyze, explain and apply the information technology to solve the problems. In addition, with the fast progress of information technology and the trend of lifelong learning, information technology education has become a very important issue. To respond to this, our Department also positively promotes the lifelong learning curriculum of computer science.
